Dynamic Compression: Pumps & Sleeves

Dynamic Compression are devices that provide a therapeutic, controlled external compression or pressure cycle to a limb. Compressed air intermittently inflates a specially designed garment. They are used in venous ulcer management and prophylactically, to reduce edema and aid return of venous blood to the heart. The physician orders should specify level of compression. The compression pump and sleeve should always be applied according to manufacturer’s recommendations.

Unnas Boot Application Demonstration

Wound Care Education Instructor Cindy Broadus RN demonstrates the application of an Unnas Boot. The Unnas Boot is what is called a “short stretch” which will help a patient establish blood flow up out of the lower extremities. In order for it to be effective, the boot will need the patient to work along with it. Cindy explains what is meant by the patient working along with the Unnas Boot.
