Understanding Osteomyelitis: Challenges in Diagnosis & Treatment will be presented by Joseph Garner MD, Director, Division of Infectious Diseases, Hospital of Central Connecticut and Leslie Scoutt MD, Yale University School of Medicine at this year’s Wild on Wound’s National Conference in Las Vegas from September 7-10, 2011 .
This session will review salient features of the pathophysiology of bone infection, including mechanisms of infection and host responses. Significant time will be devoted to diagnosis, with an emphasis on imaging modalities. Bone infections are among the most difficult infections to cure and the principles of rational therapy will be presented.

Diabetic Foot Infections: Preparing for the Coming Epidemic (Advanced) will be presented by Joseph Garner MD, Director, Division of Infectious Diseases, Hospital of Central Connecticut and Leslie Scoutt MD, Yale University School of Medicine at this year’s Wild on Wounds National Conference in Las Vegas this September 7-10,2011.

Diabetic foot infections are distressingly common and often lead to significant morbidity. This session will review diabetic foot infections from the viewpoint of an infectious disease consultant and a radiologist. The pathophysiology of diabetic foot infection will be reviewed and diagnostic imaging modalities commonly utilized will be emphasized. Finally, a rational approach to therapy will be presented

This session will focus on infectious disease issues with which wound care professionals should be familiar. General principles of rational antibiotic use will be discussed, as will common situations involving antibiotic misuse. Misconceptions about infections and their treatment will be reviewed and illustrative cases will be presented.

Flesh Eating Bacteria and Beyond: Pathophysiology, Diagnosis and Therapy of Serious Skin, Soft Tissue and Skeletal Infections Part I

The Wild on Wounds National Convention is coming up  September 23-25, 2010 in Las Vegas. Continuing in our session highlights,Flesh Eating Bacteria and Beyond: Pathophysiology, Diagnosis and Therapy of Serious Skin, Soft Tissue and Skeletal Infections Part I will be presented by Joseph Garner, MD, Director, Division of Infectious Diseases, Hospital of Central Connecticut and Leslie Scott MD, Yale University School of Medicine

This two-part session will provide a clinical review of the pathophysiology , microbiologic diagnosis and initial antibiotic therapy of these infections. We will review imaging modalities that are important in the diagnosis of these infections and case presentations designed to illustrate the principles, will be discussed throughout the session
